Member's Questions and Answers

General Questions

Who are we?

The Alpharetta Symphony Orchestra is a non-profit 501(c)(3) community ensemble based in Alpharetta, Georgia. The AlphaSO was co-founded in 2014 by Dr. S. Eric Hawk (Director), and his wife Dr. Dawn Dalangin Hawk (Pianist).

When and where do we meet?

Rehearsals are held Thursday evenings from 7:00-9:00 PM at the Crabapple First Baptist Church located at 12760 Birmingham Hwy, Milton, GA 30004. Some sectional rehearsals will also occur periodically, and warm up rehearsals are held prior to each concert event. Please check the calendar for the rehearsal and concert schedule. Emails will also be sent out to all orchestra members to provide updates on events and sectional rehearsals, so it is important that your email address be provided on your membership form.

What are my duties as a member in the orchestra?

The first goal is to have fun by playing together and making high quality music... All musicians must bring a black stand, non-wired, heavy duty with a solid black back to rehearsals and to concerts. Attendance at rehearsals is important to ensure the quality of music we create is at its highest level. We recognize that the AlphaSO is a volunteer organization whose members have careers and other obligations, however maintaining a quality level musical experience for all members requires that musicians attend all rehearsals, with the exception of one absence per concert set. Please take a few minutes to fill out the forms and send them to the personnel manager.

If I cannot make it to a rehearsal, who do I need to notify?

If you are unable to make a rehearsal or event date, please notify the head of your section (the principal player, playing your instrument). In addition, [please notify Avishay Ben Zvi, AlphaSO Personnel Manager, at least 24 hours prior to an anticipated absence. Avishay can be reached at AlphaSOPersonnel@gmail.com or phone 770-568-8362. If you see that you cannot attend several rehearsals and/or cannot perform in a concert, please let us know as soon as possible so we can work on finding a replacement for you.

What is the concert attire?

For ticketed concerts: Men: black tuxedo/suit and black socks/shoes Women: black pants or skirts/dresses that are knee length or longer, tops that have 3/4 length sleeves or longer (no short sleeves), and black socks/stockings/shoes For holiday concerts or non-ticketed events: An announcement will be made prior to the event regarding any special attire guidelines.
