The Alpharetta Symphony Orchestra (AlphaSO) presented their “Solos of Spring” concert featuring finalists from their Youth Concerto Competition on March 8, 2020 at Denmark High School in Alpharetta.
Joshua Sampson (violinist), Eugenie Lim (violinist), Tobias Liu (violinist), and Maximilian Lou (cellist), finalists from the Youth Concerto Competition hosted by the Alpharetta Symphony Orchestra this past November, performed as soloists with the orchestra. Their impressive bios can be found here. Music selections included Symphonie Espagnole by Edouard Lalo, Carmen Fantasy by Pablo Sarasate, Violin Concerto No. 2 in G minor – Allegro moderato by Sergei Prokofiev, and Cello Concerto in B minor – Allegro by Antonin Dvorak. All four soloists were Georgia middle or high school students and received standing ovations.
The AlphaSO Brass Ensemble opened the concert, and the new Alpha Youth Symphony Orchestra student members performed Verdi’s La Traviata – Prelude to Act 1 and Rossini’s Barber of Seville Overture along side the adult orchestra.
Members of the Forsyth County Arts Alliance presented the orchestra with a grant of $500. Kelly Meholic, Principal Flutist and President of the orchestra’s board, shared "The Alpharetta Symphony Orchestra is immensely grateful for the support of the Forsyth County Arts Alliance. We were honored to have representatives from the alliance join us for such a beautiful evening of music. Their presence was so encouraging to our organization, and truly shows their dedication to the arts in this community."
The AlphaSO is grateful to the patrons who attended this concert to support our local talented youth and the orchestra!
